I'm probably late to the game - but I recently heard about the Dr. Horrible web-o-vision series in a end-of-year TV review. The reviewer commented that some of the best television wasn't even on TV - it was on the web. The highlight of this genre was "Dr. Horrible's sing-along blog" - a campy superhero/supervillain story starring Neil Patrick Harris:
The conflicted villain is endearing, the superhero a shallow dolt and the love interest of both a sweet and caring soul. I'll leave the plot exploration to you - if you are familiar with writer Joss Whedon (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame), you will recognize familiar story elements (one word - "shrapnel") deployed in new ways.
The three webisodes run about 45 minutes and the DVD is available for purchase.

Oh, Gregg, if I'd known you hadn't heard of Dr. Horrible, I'd have loaned it to you. I bought it months ago ... it truly is great :)
